Crossed by the Gállego River, its
origin is roman (Ville of Sabiniano).
We can still find some medieval
monuments, such as the tower (used as a bell-tower), built in the XVI
century, and the Town Hall (XVII century). If you go to the park, you'll
find a reconstruction of the presbitery of the ruins of the Church of
Gavín. It is a superb example of the serrablese prerromanic
architecture.
Sabinánigo is the city which has
undergone the greatest development of the department of Huesca. In 1900,
it had 100 inhabitants, and today nearly 10.000 live in
Sabinánigo. It is the third largest city of Aragón (in area).
The arrival of the railway to Canfranc supposed the creation of
important industries (1920).
"The Angel Orensanz y Artes de
Serrablo Museum", at the suburb of "El Puente de
Sabinánigo", is one of the best of its kind in the country . It is
housed in a nineteenth-century building, and it has been declared
Historic-Artistic monument. This museum transports us to the past,
and we find the tools used by the aragonese people every day; You can
also find the vanguardist sculptures of Orensanz (closed on
mondays).
